The first Indian lady doctor
The first Indian woman to qualify as a doctor was Anandibai Joshi, who graduated from the Women's Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1886. She was also the first Indian woman to set foot on American soil. She returned to India and became a physician at the Albert Edward Hospital in Kolhapur, Maharashtra.

Anandibai Joshi was born in 1864 in a small village in what is now the state of Maharashtra, India. She was married at the age of 9 and became a widow at the age of 14. Despite facing many societal and cultural barriers, she was determined to become a doctor. She studied at the Women's Medical College of Pennsylvania, where she graduated with a degree in medicine in 1886. After returning to India, she worked as a physician at the Albert Edward Hospital in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. She also wrote articles and gave speeches about the importance of educating women and girls in India. Unfortunately, she died of tuberculosis at the age of 21, but her legacy lived on as she was an inspiration for many young women in India to pursue higher education and professional careers.
